1. Agreement to these terms
By accessing this website, creating an enquiry, subscribing to mail, or asking us to contact you, you agree to these Terms & Services and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please leave the site and do not send a form.
These terms cover the public website only. If you later hold a BFDLife policy, the policy wording, schedule, and any endorsements we issue to you govern the insurance itself. If a policy document conflicts with marketing text on this website, the policy document prevails for that contract of insurance.
“You” means the person using the site. If you enquire for a household, a business, or another adult, you confirm that you have authority to share their details and that they know you are doing so.
2. Who may use this website
The site is intended for adults who want to learn about personal and commercial insurance, compare the shape of our cover, and ask an advisor for a personal quotation. You must be able to enter a contract. You may not use the site if a court or regulator has barred you from transacting in insurance.
We design our explanations in plain language. Product names such as Life Insurance, Home Insurance, Motor Insurance, Health Insurance, Business Insurance, Family Protection, Travel Insurance, and Property Insurance describe categories of cover. The exact benefits, exclusions, limits, and waiting periods depend on the schedule prepared for you. A category name on a card is not a promise that every loss in that category is insured.
Nothing on this website is an offer of employment. The “Become an advisor” path is an enquiry only. We may decline any application without giving a reason, except where the law says we must explain a decision.
3. Information, not a policy
Articles, timelines, statistics, sample contributions, frequently asked questions, and advisor biographies are general information to help you prepare for a conversation. They are not personal advice. We do not know your health, your property, your driving history, your business activities, or what you can afford until you tell us.
You should read any quotation, key-facts sheet, and policy wording before you accept cover. If something is unclear, write to hello@bfdwinery.com before you rely on it. Do not cancel existing cover until replacement cover is confirmed in writing.
Examples on this site, including stories in the project gallery, are illustrations of the kinds of situations advisors discuss. They are not case files, they do not describe a real customer’s private claim, and they do not guarantee a similar outcome.
Figures such as years of experience, policies supported, claims settled, and workshop partnerships describe the scale of our practice at the time of writing. They are rounded, they can change, and they are not a forecast of how your own claim will be decided.
4. Quotes and illustrations
When you submit a quote form, a contact form, a live-chat note, or a question form, you ask us to review what you typed and, if we can, to reply by email. A form submission is not an application that binds either of us, and it is not a claim notification unless we expressly confirm that we have opened a claim file.
Indicative contributions shown on the Pricing page are examples for a healthy adult or a standard risk, using assumptions we state beside the figure. Your contribution can be higher or lower after we consider age, sums insured, excess, claims experience, construction of a building, vehicle use, destination, business activity, and the honesty and completeness of your answers.
A quotation has an expiry date when we issue one. If you do not accept it before that date, or if your circumstances change, we may withdraw or reprice it. Silence from you is not acceptance. Silence from us is not acceptance.
We may refuse to quote. Reasons can include incomplete answers, a risk outside our appetite, sanctions screening, or an inability to verify what you told us. Refusal to quote is not a statement about your character.
5. How a policy is formed
A contract of insurance is formed only when all of the following have happened: you have received a schedule naming the insured, the period, the cover, the limits, and the excess; you have accepted that schedule; and any deposit or first contribution we required has been paid by the method we specify.
Cover begins on the start date and time printed on the schedule, not when you browse this website and not when you see the thank-you message on a form. The thank-you message means only that your enquiry passed the checks in your browser and is ready for an advisor to read. It does not mean a person has already reviewed it.
Pre-existing conditions, unoccupied property, commercial use of a home, racing, hazardous travel, and undeclared drivers are examples of topics a schedule may restrict or exclude. Always read the exclusions rather than assuming a headline benefit applies.
If you pay by instalments, missing an instalment can suspend or end cover, as the schedule will explain. A receipt for an enquiry is not a receipt for premium.
6. Your duty to be accurate
Insurance depends on what you tell us. You must answer questions honestly, completely, and in good faith. That duty continues until the policy starts and, where the wording says so, at renewal and when you ask to change cover.
If you are unsure whether a fact matters, include it. Facts that often matter include prior claims, refusals of cover, criminal convictions that are not spent under the rules that apply to you, medical treatment, building materials, security, the true garaging of a vehicle, who drives it, and how a business actually earns its income.
If you give us information that is false, misleading, or recklessly incomplete, we may decline a claim, amend terms, recover amounts paid, or treat the policy as if it never started, to the extent the law allows. We would rather receive a longer, careful note than a short one that leaves something out.
You are responsible for keeping copies of documents you upload or describe. Do not send passwords, full payment-card numbers, or government identity numbers through the free-text boxes on this website. If we need a document, we will tell you a safer way to provide it.
7. Contributions, fees, and changes
The price of cover is the contribution (sometimes called a premium) plus any taxes, levies, or administration amounts that must be added by law or that we disclose before you buy. The Pricing page does not add those amounts unless a card says so. Your quotation will separate them when they apply.
We may change our rates for new business and for renewals. We do not change the price of a policy mid-term unless the schedule allows it, you ask for a change, or you tell us about a fact that alters the risk.
An excess is the amount you bear on a claim. A higher excess usually lowers the contribution and the other way around. Choosing an excess you cannot afford is not a saving. We will talk that through with you if you ask.
Refunds of unearned contribution, when they exist, follow the policy wording and any minimum amount we disclose. A refund is not automatic merely because you send the unsubscribe form. Unsubscribing stops marketing mail. It does not cancel a policy.
8. Claims cooperation
If you hold cover and suffer a loss, tell us as soon as you reasonably can through claims@bfdwinery.com, and follow the steps in your schedule. Late notice can harm a claim if it prevents us from investigating.
You agree, when you are a policyholder, to give us documents we reasonably need, to allow inspection of damaged property where it is safe to do so, and not to admit liability or dispose of damaged items unless the wording or an advisor says you may. Emergency steps that prevent further damage, such as boarding a window or shutting off water, are encouraged. Keep receipts.
We may appoint a loss adjuster, a repair network, a medical examiner, or a lawyer. You may also appoint your own adviser at your own cost unless the policy says we will pay that cost. A workshop partnership listed on this site is a convenience, not a requirement to use a particular firm, unless your wording says repairs must be approved.
Fraudulent or exaggerated claims may be refused in full and may be reported to the authorities and to fraud-prevention databases that insurers share, where the law allows that reporting.
9. Cooling-off, changes, and ending cover
Where a cooling-off period applies to your policy, its length and the conditions for a refund will be printed on your schedule or welcome letter. Cooling-off is not a feature of every product. A claim during the cooling-off period can end the right to cancel without cost.
You may ask to change a sum insured, a named driver, an address of a risk, or a beneficiary by writing to hello@bfdwinery.com. The change starts when we confirm it, not when you send the request. Some changes need a new price.
We may cancel or decline to renew only in the circumstances described in the policy wording and applicable law. Those circumstances commonly include non-payment, a serious misrepresentation, or a change that takes the risk outside what we insure. We will use the contact email you gave us.
Ending a policy does not erase a claim that arose during the period of cover, and it does not erase your duty to cooperate on that claim.
10. Acceptable use
You may use this website for lawful, personal or internal business research and for genuine enquiries. You must not probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the site, overload it, scrape it in a way that degrades service for others, upload malicious code, or attempt to gain access to another person’s enquiry.
You must not use our name, our logo, or a page of this site to mislead someone into thinking you represent BFDLife. You must not submit another person’s email address to a form in order to harass them or to subscribe them without their knowledge.
We may remove access, ignore an enquiry, or block a browser pattern that appears abusive. We do not have to explain automated abuse controls in real time.
11. Intellectual property
The BFDLife name, the shield-and-home mark, page layouts, original text, and graphics we created are owned by BFDLife or used with permission. You may share links to our pages. You may not copy substantial parts of the site for a competing service, and you may not remove notices from materials we provide.
Photographs of people and places are used to illustrate families, homes, travel, and professional conversations. They do not mean that the person pictured is a policyholder, an employee, or an endorser, unless the caption names them as a member of our team. Team portraits are of the advisers named on those pages.
If you send us a suggestion, you agree we may use the idea to improve our service without an obligation to pay you, unless we sign a separate written agreement.
12. Third-party services
Links to sharing tools open on other companies’ websites. Those companies have their own terms. A repairer, clinician, or travel assistant mentioned as a type of partner is an independent business. Their workmanship, bedside manner, and prices are their own, except for the specific promise printed in your policy.
We do not control search engines, email providers, or social networks. A failure of those services does not extend a cooling-off period or a quote expiry unless we confirm an extension in writing.
13. Disclaimers
The website is provided on an “as available” basis. We work to keep it accurate and available, yet pages can be out of date, interrupted, or affected by a mistake. We do not warrant that the site is free of errors or that a form will be delivered if your network fails before the thank-you message appears.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude implied warranties that are capable of exclusion, including implied warranties of fitness for a particular personal purpose. Nothing in these terms excludes a right that the law says cannot be excluded, including rights related to a policy that has actually been issued.
Insurance is a contract of risk transfer. It is not a savings account, not a bank deposit, and not an investment product, unless a specific life or savings contract says otherwise and you receive a dedicated disclosure for that contract. Health-related cover is not a substitute for emergency medical care. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services first.
14. Liability
If we are liable for a loss connected with your use of the website (as distinct from a claim under an issued policy), our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for website access in the previous three months. Website access is free, so that amount will usually be zero. This cap does not apply to liability that cannot legally be capped, such as liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, where such a carve-out is required.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of data, or loss arising from your reliance on general information instead of a schedule, except where the law does not allow that exclusion.
A claim under a policy is dealt with under that policy’s limitation and complaint provisions, not under this website cap.
15. Electronic messages
You consent to receive replies, quotations, and service messages at the email address you submit. Please keep that inbox able to receive mail from bfdwinery.com and check spam folders. A message is treated as received when it is sent to the address you gave, unless it bounces.
Marketing messages are optional. You can ask to stop them on the Unsubscribe page or by using the link in a marketing email. Service messages about a quote you requested, a policy you hold, a claim, or a payment can continue because they are part of the service rather than a newsletter.
Do not assume an email from a similar-looking address is from us. We send from hello@bfdwinery.com and claims@bfdwinery.com. We will not ask you to send a password or a full card number by email.
16. Privacy
Personal information you submit is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. That policy explains what we collect, why we use it, how long we keep it, and how to make a request. If these terms and the Privacy Policy both speak about personal information, the Privacy Policy gives the fuller account.
17. Changes, severability, and contact
We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page with a new date. The version that applies to a website visit is the version posted at the time of that visit. The version that applies to a policy is the one in force when the policy was formed, together with the policy wording, unless a change to the wording is made by endorsement.
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest remains in force. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of that right.
These terms are the whole website agreement. They do not amend an issued policy. They are interpreted under the law that applies to BFDLife’s insurance operations, without reference to conflict-of-law rules that would send the website agreement somewhere else, and without any statement that the company is organised in a particular country on this page. Courts of that same legal system have exclusive jurisdiction over website disputes, except that you may still use any complaint body the law requires us to honour for insurance complaints.
Questions about these terms: write to hello@bfdwinery.com with the subject “Terms”. Please do not include account passwords or card numbers. We aim to acknowledge website enquiries within two business days. Business days follow our published desk hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, with Sunday closed.
